Frequently asked questions about geothermal systems
How much can I save over conventional heating & cooling systems?
On average you can see a 20% to 50% savings. We recommend that you have an actual analysis done on your home that will give you a more accurate estimate of your savings for your home.
How much space do the geothermal systems take?
The indoor unit is about the same size of a traditional heating system. All of the outdoor piping is below ground.
How noisy are geothermal systems?
Geothermal systems are very quiet and provide a very pleasant environment. Remember that there is no outside unit to disturb you.
How does the geothermal system heat water for my home?
The unit uses a heat exchanger called a desuperheater. During the summer the unit uses your waste heat from the cooling process and turns it into free hot water. During the winter the unit heats a portion of your hot water. There are also dedicated systems that will just heat the water all year round.
How much does a geothermal system cost?
The initial investment is normally greater than a conventional system. However, when you consider the operating cost for the heating, cooling, hot water, the potential tax credits, and potential utility rebates, this quickly offsets the initial difference in purchase price.
How much land is required for the ground loops?
Vertical wells require a very limited amount of space. Each well is about 10’ apart. The average home requires around a 20’ x 20’ area. Horizontal loops require a greater amount of area but are typically less money to install.
